Before an occupation permit (or temporary occupation permit) is issued, how many people may occupy a new building under the Buildings Ordinance?
Answer: Not more than two caretakers. Why not the others: - No one at all: The Ordinance permits occupation by up to two caretakers. - First purchasers who paid in full: Payment gives no right to occupy before an occupation permit. - Any number with insurance: Insurance does not replace the permit. Rule: A new building shall not be occupied, except by not more than two caretakers, until an occupation permit or temporary occupation permit has been issued by the Building Authority. Thinking purchasers can move in once they complete payment.
