Mandy Yip, a salesperson preparing a market briefing for a client, needs last year’s figures for completions, take-up and vacancy of private domestic flats, together with forecast completions. Which publication is designed to give these?
Answer: the Hong Kong Property Review. The Rating and Valuation Department publishes it each year; it covers completions, take-up, vacancies, prices and rents for the previous year, plus forecast completions verified by inspections and enquiries. Why not the others: - Land Registry statistics: these show the number and value of transactions registered, not completions, take-up or vacancies. - EAA annual report: it reports on licensing and regulation, not on property supply. - Housing Department figures: these concern public housing demand, not private domestic supply and take-up. Rule: for annual supply and take-up statistics, use the Rating and Valuation Department’s Hong Kong Property Review and its website. Source: EAA, A Study Guide to Estate Agency Law and Practice, Part 1, para 24; as at Oct 2026
Candidates pick the Land Registry because it publishes statistics, but it measures transactions, not supply and vacancy.
